How to Get Rid of White Spots on Tonsils

If you have white spots on your tonsils, you may have one of two different conditions. The first is tonsillitis and it is caused by an infection. The second is a condition known as tonsil stones. Both of these conditions are treatable. The second one is treatable with things you have in your home.

Tonsillitis is caused by either a viral or bacterial infection. In order to determine which one is causing your pain, you need to see a doctor. The doctor will swab your throat and run tests to determine which infection is causing your white spots. If it is a bacterial infection, you will be prescribed an antibiotic in most cases. If it is a viral infection, there is no medication that can cure it. The infections must simply run its course.

Tonsil stones are caused by a buildup of food particles and other mouth debris on the tonsils. These are usually harmless, but can cause bad breath and some irritation in your throat. You can remove these bumps with a cotton swab or a toothpick, if you do not have very active gag reflex. However, you need to exercise some caution so you don’t poke your throat.

You may find some relief by gargling with boiled water with salt and lime. Powdered pepper and turmeric added to water may also help. Cold drinks will ease the pain as well.
