Tonsil infections are caused by either a viral or bacterial infection. Tonsillitis refers to swollen tonsils. But you may also have a headache, fever, ear pain, or the chills. It’s probably difficult to talk, swallow, or taste anything.
If your tonsil infection is caused by a viral infection, there are no antibiotics or other medications that can help cure it. Sore throat lozenges and over the counter pain medications may help, but it will usually take a few days for the symptoms to disappear.
During this time, there are some home remedies that may help ease the pain. Mixing tumeric and powdered pepper with boiled water may lessen the burning in your throat. Drinking juice that is full of antioxidants will help your body fight off the infection. Gargling with warm salt water may also provide relief.
However,
if your symptoms are due to a bacterial infection, you will need to
get a prescription for antibiotics in order to get rid of the
infection. A visit to the doctor will be in order because you will
need to have your throat swabbed to make sure your symptoms are due
to strep bacteria.
